35 Years of Russia-Brunei Relations: Lavrov Says Dialogue Essential for Solving International Problems

Moscow – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei-Darussalam, Dato’ Erywan Pehin Yusof, held a meeting in Moscow on March 3, 2026. The meeting specially commemorated the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Lavrov informed that the talks, which began in an informal setting, included in-depth discussions on international issues affecting various countries in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. He said, “Yesterday, informally, we began a conversation on the complex issues of current international politics, which demonstrates the need to intensify dialogue between friendly countries like Russia and Brunei-Darussalam.”

Lavrov noted that this year marks 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Brunei, describing it as a historic milestone. He also mentioned that it is the 35th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between Russia and ASEAN, praising Brunei as an active and respected member of ASEAN.

“Our annual meeting today provides an excellent opportunity to discuss various topics ranging from bilateral relations to regional and international issues,” Lavrov said. It was reported that the two ministers held detailed discussions on the comprehensive assessment of the global situation and various dimensions of mutual interest.

It is believed that this meeting will elevate the relations between Russia and Brunei to new heights.
