Society warns PM: “Don’t weaken the non-aligned policy, abandon the anti-China policy”

Kathmandu,/ The Nepal-China Mutual Cooperation Society has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Sushila Karki expressing serious concern and demanding significant reforms in foreign policy. The memorandum accuses the current government of jeopardizing Nepal’s traditional non-aligned foreign policy, sovereignty, and historic friendly relations with China.
A memorandum sent by the President of the Nepal-China Mutual Cooperation Society to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar describes the current government’s structure and the policy-making process as giving ‘priority to the strategic interests of foreign powers’ and as being ‘anti-China’.
Main Allegations and Concerns:
The main allegations mentioned in the memorandum are as follows:
1.Doubts in the Prime Minister’s background: The memorandum describes Prime Minister Karki’s judicial and political journey as “connected to the Indian, European, and then American spheres of influence.” This has been accused of undermining Nepal’s independent and balanced foreign policy.
2. Western influence in the Cabinet: The memorandum states, “Almost all ministers appear to be directly or indirectly associated with American or Western-funded organizations (such as the Barbara Foundation, NED, etc.).” On this basis, the current government has been accused of being a “completely American coalition government.”
3. Anti-China Character: It has been alleged that the original form of the current power structure is focused on opposing China. It has been warned that this could negatively impact the historical friendship between Nepal and China, Nepal’s commitment to the ‘One-China Policy’, and strategic projects such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
4. Foreign interference in the change of power: The memorandum states that the change of power following the current movement “would not have been possible without the American strategy, the activation of foreign aid agencies, and the involvement of even the Nepali Army.” This has been viewed as having seriously affected Nepal’s internal sovereignty and diplomatic balance.

Society’s Demands:
In this regard, the main demands put forward by the Society to Prime Minister Karki are as follows:
* A strong commitment to a non-aligned foreign policy should be made public.
* Ensure a policy-making process free from the influence of foreign-funded institutions.
* Nepal’s firm commitment to the ‘One-China Policy’ should be reaffirmed.
* Concrete steps should be taken to stop anti-China activities.
* People with a positive view of China should be given proportional participation in security and government.
The memorandum emphasizes that this move is not just a criticism but a patriotic warning to protect Nepal’s independence, non-alignment, and friendly relations with its neighbors. The Society has urged to protect it from any foreign interference, saying that “Nepal-China friendship is our geographical imperative, historical connection, and the cornerstone of future shared prosperity.”
A copy of this memorandum has also been sent to the President of Nepal, the President of China, and the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. There has been no official response from the government on this matter so far.
