China Urges U.S. to Immediately Cease Arms Sales to Taiwan Region

Beijing, – The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office of China on Thursday urged the United States to immediately stop arming the Taiwan region of China.

Spokesperson Chen Binhua made the remarks while commenting on the U.S. announcement of a new arms sale package worth up to $11 billion to the Taiwan region.

“Taiwan is at the core of China’s core interests and represents the red line in China-U.S. relations that must not be crossed,” Chen emphasized. “The U.S. announcement of this massive arms sale to Taiwan constitutes a blatant interference in China’s internal affairs.”

Chen stated that this move violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, severely undermines China’s sovereignty and security interests, and sends a gravely wrong signal to separatist forces in Taiwan.

He urged the U.S. side to cease its condoning and support for “Taiwan independence” separatists and to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués.

Chen noted that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan have persistently sought U.S. backing for their separatist agenda, attempting to pursue “Taiwan independence” by force while turning Taiwan into a “powder keg” and using its people as “cannon fodder.” Such actions, he warned, would only bring disaster to Taiwanese compatriots and fully expose the DPP authorities as “peace-breakers” and “warmongers.”

Chen called on all people in Taiwan to recognize the malicious nature of the DPP authorities. He also warned that China’s national reunification is an unstoppable trend, and should any “Taiwan independence” separatist forces dare to cross the red line, they will face decisive countermeasures.
