54th Anniversary of China-US ‘Ping-Pong Diplomacy’ Celebrated in the US

Los Angeles, Hundreds of politicians, diplomats, and athletes from China and the United States gathered on Monday at the Pacific Palms Resort in Los Angeles County to celebrate the 54th anniversary of China-US ‘Ping-Pong Diplomacy.’
Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles, Guo Shaochun, stated at a reception held on this occasion, “The ‘Ping-Pong Diplomacy’ from over fifty years ago is an iconic moment in China-US relations.”
He said, “Its legacy has developed into a bright torch, continuously illuminating the path of China-US friendship. It clearly and powerfully expresses the desire and passion of the peoples of both countries to enhance mutual relations and understanding.”
Connie Sweeris, a former US table tennis champion who participated in the historic visit to China in 1971, said, “The greatest significance of ‘Ping-Pong Diplomacy’ is that it opened a door for communication between the US and China. I hope that the younger generation of table tennis players and other sports will carry forward the ‘Ping-Pong Legacy.'”
Dragomir Cioroslan, Director of International Relations for the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, emphasized at this annual event, “The impact of ‘Ping-Pong Diplomacy’ has reached far beyond sports. It has opened doors for cooperation and exchange between the two countries, which has continued to shape bilateral relations and inspired people to build a more harmonious world.”
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including US Congresswoman Judy May Chu, California State Senator Maria Durazo, President of the International Table Tennis Federation Petra Sörling, and CEO of USA Table Tennis Virginia Sung.
