China Appoints New Ambassador to Nepal
Chen Maoming: A Familiar Face in Nepal's Political Circles

Kathmandu, Nepal – The People’s Republic of China has appointed Chen Maoming, Deputy Director-General of the Asian Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the new Ambassador to Nepal. China has already submitted the necessary agrément (approval) for his appointment to the Nepali government.
The Chinese Embassy in Nepal formally presented the new ambassador’s agrément to the Nepali Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday. Chen Maoming is set to replace former Ambassador Hou Yanqi (Chen Song), who completed her three-year term and recently returned to China after a promotion. Chen Song has now taken up the role of Director at the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The newly appointed Ambassador Chen is not a new figure in Nepal’s political and diplomatic circles. He has previously held multiple meetings with Nepal’s political leadership and senior officials during various diplomatic events and discussions. Chen is recognized as a Chinese diplomat with in-depth knowledge of Nepal’s internal and external affairs and is regarded as an analytical diplomatic figure.
Chen Maoming’s appointment is expected to further invigorate China-Nepal bilateral relations. According to analysts, his extensive experience in Asian affairs may play a positive role in enhancing cooperation and addressing shared interests between the two countries.
