Protest in Support of Venezuela Held Outside the U.S. Embassy in Madrid

Madrid — Latin American immigrants living in Europe and their descendants, along with Spanish supporters, gathered on Sunday outside the U.S. Embassy in Spain’s capital, Madrid, to protest against U.S. intervention in Venezuela. Carrying the flags of various Latin American countries, the demonstrators chanted slogans in support of Venezuela’s sovereignty.

The protest atmosphere was shaped by the music of the Andean pan flute. Alberto Calderón, a member of a traditional Andean music group and the son of Peruvian immigrants, led the participants in unified chants while keeping rhythm with the music. He explained that this music, which originated in the Andean highlands, is a shared cultural heritage spread across Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and parts of Argentina and Chile, and that it existed long before modern national borders. According to him, the music was used as a medium to express solidarity with Venezuela’s current situation.

“Venezuela, an immortal nation,” the protesters chanted. “The people of the world stand with you in your resistance.”

Araceli Muñoz Rojas, one of the participants, said she joined the rally to oppose U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, describing it as a violation of international law and national sovereignty. Similarly, Miguel Sánchez, who holds dual Spanish–Argentine citizenship, warned that external intervention could set a dangerous precedent for all of Latin America.

Toward the end of the rally, as the music and chants gradually quieted, participants emphasized the need to keep alive solidarity and the historical memory of repeated foreign interventions in Latin America. “Even as time passes, I cannot forget you; it is impossible,” they sang together in a collective song.

Meanwhile, claims have emerged that the United States launched a major military attack on Venezuela on Saturday. U.S. President Donald Trump stated on his Truth Social account that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been “arrested and taken out of the country.”

The U.S. military action has drawn widespread international condemnation. Various countries have called for respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty and international law, stressing the need for a coordinated global response.
