Venezuela’s Acting President Urges Public to Trust Political Leadership Amid Complex Situation

Caracas – Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, has urged the public to maintain trust in the country’s political leadership amid the current complex political situation. Addressing the nation via a televised speech on Sunday, she said that although some decisions and actions may appear “difficult to understand” to the public, they are guided by a clear strategy.

She stressed the need for national unity that includes all political and social sectors as the country confronts multiple challenges. According to Rodriguez, it would be difficult to steer the nation out of the current crisis without such unity.

Her remarks came about a week after U.S. military strikes against Venezuela, which reportedly killed at least 100 people and led to the detention of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.

Reiterating her call for public confidence in the political leadership, Rodriguez said the government is implementing a “solid and well-planned strategy” against opposing forces.

Meanwhile, on January 7, the Venezuelan government announced that it had begun negotiations with the United States to increase oil sales. Two days later, it also revealed a decision to launch an “exploratory” diplomatic process with the White House aimed at restoring diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The government’s move is being viewed as an effort to advance international dialogue and seek solutions amid the ongoing crisis.
