Cuba is a Free, Sovereign Nation: President Diaz-Canel Strongly Responds to Trump’s Accusations

Caracas/Havana – Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has strongly rejected allegations made by U.S. President Donald Trump against Cuba.
In a statement posted on his official social media account X on Sunday, Diaz-Canel emphasized that Cuba is a free, independent, and sovereign nation, dismissing Trump’s claim that the island provided “security services” to Venezuela in exchange for oil.
According to President Diaz-Canel, the United States has no moral authority to criticize Cuba, and he accused the U.S. of turning everything, even human lives, into a business. He added that the U.S. reaction reflects an “overreaction” to the Cuban people’s sovereign decision to choose their political model.
Diaz-Canel further stated that those who blame the Cuban Revolution for the serious economic hardships currently faced by the Cuban people should be ashamed. He said, “Those who blame the Revolution must feel utter shame, because these problems are the result of six decades of harsh blockades and sanctions imposed by the United States.”
According to Diaz-Canel, Cuba does not attack or threaten other nations, but it is fully prepared to defend itself “to the last drop of blood” if necessary.
This statement comes in response to Trump’s warning that the U.S. could cut Cuba off from Venezuelan oil and economic cooperation, and his urging of Cuba to negotiate with Washington. Cuba has interpreted Trump’s claim as an attempt to undermine its sovereignty and right to self-determination.
