Gifts for Children of Prisoners at the Russian House in Kathmandu: Goodwill Growing Between Russia and Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal: The Russian Cultural Center (Russian House) in Kathmandu, together with Prisoners Assistance Nepal (PAN), extended Christmas and New Year 2026 greetings to vulnerable children.
The PAN Children’s Shelter was established by the Deputy Speaker of Nepal’s Parliament, Indira Rana Magar, who is an active partner of Russia. She has traditionally supported the development of Russia-Nepal cooperation and contributes significantly to the development of the NGO sector (a participant in the 2024 Eurasian Women’s Forum).

The PAN Shelter is a unique social project for children belonging to vulnerable social groups and whose parents are incarcerated. The Russian House has traditionally been providing support to representatives of underprivileged communities in Nepal.
The Director of the Russian House, Anastasia Khokhlova, and PAN Coordinator Sunita Manandhar emphasized the importance of bringing joy to children and strengthening friendship between countries.

The children performed energetic dances and songs (“Juni Katxu,” “Maiti Ghar,” etc.). Russian Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) was welcomed with thunderous applause. As per tradition, he arrived with a sack of gifts. Ded Moroz distributed gifts under the most beautiful Christmas tree in Kathmandu, and then everyone watched a Christmas cartoon featuring Masha and her famous bear friend.

Director of the Russian House, Anastasia Khokhlova: “It is symbolic that during Christmas week, the Russian House—a symbol of hospitality—is open to children of different nationalities. We are convinced that even small efforts of support lead to big results. We are building bridges of unity and mutual assistance between Russia and Nepal. Together—towards new heights! Happy New Year and Christmas!”
This program presented a shining example of the growing cultural exchange and social cooperation between Russia and Nepal. The Russian Cultural Center has expressed its commitment to continue humanitarian activities in Nepal and to further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.
