China’s Spring Festival Travel Rush Expected to Handle Record 95 Million Air Passengers

Beijing, January 20. China’s civil aviation sector is projected to manage over 95 million passenger trips during the upcoming Spring Festival travel season, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The 40-day travel rush will last from February 2 to March 13. Wang Weijun, deputy director of the transport department at CAAC, announced this at a press conference on Monday, stating that the daily average is expected to reach 2.38 million passenger trips.

He mentioned that during this period, an average of 19,400 flights will operate daily, marking a 5 percent increase compared to last year. This surge in air travel is attributed to factors such as the integrated development of aviation and tourism, a longer holiday period, and easier cross-border travel.

Popular flight routes include northern ‘ice and snow’ tourism destinations, warmer southern tourist spots, as well as domestic and international routes for tourism.

Wang stated that to meet the growing demand, the CAAC will implement targeted measures in safety management, flight capacity, and service support. The civil aviation system will make all-out efforts to ensure passengers enjoy safe, convenient, and comfortable travel, and to maintain smooth and efficient air cargo channels during this period.
