Russia Expresses Dissatisfaction Over Delay in Release of Russian Seamen Detained in USA

Moscow, Russia — The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed indignation and rejection of the prolonged delay in releasing two Russian crew members of the oil tanker ‘Marinera,’ which was seized by US armed forces. Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, during a press briefing on Monday, conveyed Russia’s “dissatisfaction” and “bewilderment” regarding the matter.

This reaction comes nearly a year after US President Donald Trump pledged to secure the release of these Russian nationals. The tanker Marinera was intercepted last year in the international waters of the North Atlantic by the US Navy, and its two Russian crew members were taken into custody by US authorities.

Spokeswoman Zakharova clarified, “A considerable amount of time has passed since the Russian side received confirmation that, in response to our request, Donald Trump had taken a decision to release the two Russian nationals. The prolonged pause in resolving this issue, which is important to us and requires urgent action, has left us dissatisfied.”

This incident has added a new tense chapter to Russia-US relations. The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed the expectation that these citizens will be released and repatriated to Russia in the coming days.

International legal experts are viewing this incident in the context of ‘one nation detaining another nation’s citizens and vessel in international waters,’ while political circles have raised serious questions about it. Russia has consistently described such actions as a violation of international law.

Spokeswoman Zakharova’s statement demonstrates Moscow’s clear commitment to the safety and rights of Russian citizens. She stated, “We hope that their release will take place very soon, allowing our citizens to return home quickly.”

This case has emerged as a new dispute in US-Russia relations, and the international community is indicating that swift diplomatic talks between the two nations are necessary for its resolution.
