Commitment to Strengthen Russia-Cuba Relations: Lavrov and Rodriguez Hold Telephone Dialogue

Moscow – A telephone conversation took place on February 2 between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that during the talks, there was an in-depth discussion on the main areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the current international political situation.
During the conversation, the Russian side reiterated its principled stance that any attempts to create economic or military pressure on Cuba are unacceptable. Russia specifically warned that efforts to obstruct energy supplies to Cuba could severely worsen not only the country’s economic conditions but also its humanitarian situation.
Foreign Minister Lavrov reaffirmed that Russia remains fully committed to continuously providing Cuba with the necessary political and material support. He stated that even in difficult circumstances, Russia stands firmly in support of Cuba’s sovereignty, independence, and right to development.
The two ministers also discussed the schedule for upcoming high-level contacts and visits between Russia and Cuba in the coming days. Analysts say this indicates that the historical relationship between the two friendly nations will be further strengthened.
Based on long-standing mutual trust, cooperation, and solidarity, Russia-Cuba relations have continued to strengthen in recent years despite international pressure and geopolitical changes. This latest dialogue clearly demonstrates the shared will of both countries to further advance their strategic partnership.
