Self-Reliance in Science and Technology Is Decisive for Building a Modern Socialist China

Beijing — Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has stressed that self-reliance and strengthened capabilities in science and technology constitute the decisive foundation for transforming China into a modern and powerful socialist country. Describing it as the “key” to national development, he noted that a decisive leap forward in science and technology is essential to achieving the country’s long-term strategic goals.

Xi made the remarks on Monday while visiting a national information technology innovation park in Beijing. He emphasized the need for China to reduce external dependence and prioritize scientific and technological innovation based on its own capabilities. According to him, in an era of intense global competition, technological self-reliance is a cornerstone of national security, economic stability, and sustainable development.

The CPC General Secretary called for concentrating strength on major national projects, integrating high-quality resources and talent, and accelerating efforts to achieve breakthroughs in strategically important areas. He also underscored the importance of promptly identifying and addressing weaknesses and bottlenecks in technological development.

Xi expressed confidence that China can achieve its long-term strategic objectives by strengthening information technology, digital infrastructure, high-level research, and innovation systems. According to him, only through self-reliance and continuous innovation in science and technology can China rise to the heights of a modern socialist nation.
