It Could Be a Conspiracy to Turn Nepal into a Second Ukraine: Dev Gurung

Kathmandu, Fagun 4: Leader of the Nepali Communist Party and former minister Dev Gurung has expressed serious suspicion regarding some recent activities observed in Nepal. He has commented that the joint military exercise displayed at Tundikhel on the occasion of Army Day is not dignified for a sovereign nation.

On Falgun 3 (2082 Falgun 3), during the ceremony organized at Tundikhel to mark the 263rd Army Day, military bands from India, Britain, and the United States performed alongside the Nepali Army. On that occasion, President Ramchandra Paudel presented ‘Souvenir Tokens’ to the heads of the military contingents from India, Britain, and the US. Gurung has expressed disagreement with this, referring to it as a parade display under the guise of a joint military exercise.

Leader Gurung has also drawn attention to the recent increase in visits by foreign military officials to Nepal and the movement of military aircraft. Similarly, he has expressed concern over the exchange of greetings during the formation of the Dalai Lama’s interim government and the subsequent increase in visits by his representatives to Nepal. Just recently, the Dalai Lama’s representative, Khyabje Jonang Gyaltsab Rinpoche, visited Nepal, regarding which China had also expressed diplomatic concern.

He has stated that the violence of Bhadau 24 and the open display of a group resembling a paramilitary force called TOB should also be taken seriously. Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has already claimed that there was a conspiracy to push Nepal into a situation like Ukraine during the events of Bhadau 23 and 24. Similarly, physician and entrepreneur Durga Prasai had also accused Western powers of trying to implement the Ukraine model in Nepal by mobilizing personalities like Balen Shah and Rabi Lamichhane.

Gurung stated that this scenario seen on the eve of the elections needs to be carefully observed, saying, “It cannot be said that behind this there might not be a sponsored election aimed at turning Nepal into a second Ukraine.”

The House of Representatives election is going to be held in Nepal on the upcoming 21st. Prior to this, various political analysts and media have already commented on the interest of external forces in Nepal’s election. Some analyses have also alleged that the American ‘deep state’ wants to make Nepal its military base and is trying to influence the electoral process for that purpose.

Gurung urged all leftist, democratic forces, and patriots, saying, “It seems necessary to emphasize conducting and ensuring a fair and free election, and to issue a four-pronged warning against possible rigging in the election.”

His statement indicates that suspicion of foreign interference persists in political circles on the eve of the elections. However, the Election Commission has stated that it has completed all preparations to conduct a clean, fair, and dignified election.
