Russian Envoy Appointed to Mauritania: Alexey Malenko Takes on New Responsibility

Kathmandu- In accordance with an order from the Russian President, Alexey Vladimirovich Malenko has been appointed as the new Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. He has been entrusted with the responsibility of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary through Order No. 13, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 13, 2026.

Born in 1969, Malenko graduated from the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University in 1997. He is proficient in Arabic, English, and French.

Affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1996, he has held various responsibilities in the central office and abroad. From 2011 to 2021, he served as an Advisor, Senior Advisor, and Head of Division in the State Protocol Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Subsequently, from January 2021 to July 2025, he was the Consul General of Russia in Cape Town, South Africa.

Following his appointment, he has officially assumed his post via the Telegram channel of the Russian Embassy in Mauritania. It is believed that this appointment will further strengthen the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
