BRICS’ Rising Influence: Lavrov Signals Global Governance Reform

Moscow, February 18: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hosted a working lunch with the heads of diplomatic missions from BRICS member states and partner countries accredited in Moscow. The meeting, held on February 17, featured extensive discussions on contemporary global issues.

The meeting particularly emphasized the need to preserve the central role of the United Nations. Participants stressed the importance of joint efforts to reform the global governance system and enhance the influence of ‘Global Majority’ countries in international decision-making processes.

Commitment was also expressed during the meeting to raise BRICS’ international profile and strengthen coordination among member states in key multilateral forums. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that a comprehensive exchange of views took place on enhancing strategic partnership within the group, taking into account the priorities outlined under India’s BRICS chairmanship this year.

This meeting has highlighted BRICS’ growing role and the shared vision of member states regarding reforms on the global stage. According to analysts, BRICS is emerging as a significant platform for nations seeking an alternative to Western dominance.
