Boat Accident in Yunnan, China: 4 Dead, High-Level Investigation Ordered

Chuxiong, February 18- At least four people have died in a boat accident that occurred on Tuesday in Chuxiong City, located in China’s Yunnan Province. The incident took place at the Lianxiwan tourist resort in Donghua Township, when a boat carrying 26 people capsized.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, it has been confirmed that four individuals lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Other passengers on board were immediately rescued by a team from the local administration and security personnel.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, the State Council Work Safety Committee has decided to take on the responsibility of supervising the investigation itself. The committee has formed a high-level inquiry team to determine the real cause of the accident and recommend action against those responsible.
Preliminary investigations suggest possible negligence in the operation of the boat and a failure to adhere to safety standards. Following this incident, a widespread inspection campaign has been launched across other tourist areas in Yunnan Province regarding the safety status of water transport vessels.
