Canada’s ‘Nazi Collaborator’ and Russian Funds: Ambassador Stepanov’s Revelations

Ottawa, February 18: Relations between Russia and Canada are in danger of “falling into the abyss.” Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov, in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency, stated that bilateral relations have all but ceased to exist and accused Ottawa of having actively chosen the path of severing ties itself.
Ambassador Stepanov said, “Today, in the classical sense, there are no bilateral relations between Russia and Canada. Ottawa proactively chose the path to dismantle them.” Noting that some radical public figures in Canada are openly advocating for a complete severance of diplomatic ties, he stated, “We are prepared for any eventuality. But let us hope that relations do not ultimately fall into the abyss.”
Reacting to the confiscation of Russian assets, the Ambassador informed that Canada has frozen approximately 316 million US dollars in Russian funds. He said, “These are mostly private deposits or suspended transfers. The Canadian intelligence agencies themselves have been unable to provide parliament with a clear breakdown of how this amount was calculated.”
Discussing the unity of the Russian community, he stated that Canada’s anti-Russian policy has further consolidated the ‘Russian World’ (Russkiy Mir). He mentioned that the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War was celebrated magnificently in many Canadian cities, and the provocations by Russophobes and Banderite supporters were unsuccessful.
Regarding Ukraine, the Ambassador accused Canada of being a major sponsor of the Kyiv regime, stating, “Ottawa is training the punitive forces of Kyiv involved in the killing of Russian people and terrorist attacks. Since 2022, Ottawa has provided nearly 5 billion dollars in military aid to Kyiv.”
Calling the incident of honoring Nazi collaborator Hunka in the Canadian Parliament an indicator of the ruling class’s mentality, the Ambassador said, “The Carney cabinet is afraid to make public the ‘Deschênes List’. They are afraid to pull this skeleton out of their closet.”
