Chinese Model and Nepal’s Path: Xi Thought Aligns the Formula for Poverty Alleviation

Kathmandu – There are growing indications that the economic philosophy and poverty reduction model of Chinese President Xi Jinping may now become exemplary for Nepal as well. At a special dialogue program organized by Friends on the Cloud: Platform of Influencers Nepal, speakers expressed the view that Nepal could achieve tangible results if it successfully implements China’s proven poverty alleviation model.

According to Gorkhapatra Online, expert speakers including Dr. Kusum Shakya, Dr. Agni Kafle, Dr. Bishnuhari Nepal, and Shobhit Upreti presented concrete frameworks for Nepal’s development. They suggested that significant progress in poverty reduction could be achieved by promoting tourism, developing physical infrastructure, preserving language and culture, and branding Nepal’s pure water as “mineral water” in the global market.

During the program, speakers highly praised President Xi Jinping’s economic policies and China’s practical approach to poverty alleviation, stating that these could provide guidance even for a developing nation like Nepal. They noted that China’s experience of lifting hundreds of millions of people out of poverty within just a few decades is highly relevant in the Nepali context.

A significant portion of Nepal’s population still lives below the poverty line. In such circumstances, speakers concluded that China’s targeted programs, infrastructure expansion, and sustainable economic policies could offer Nepal a new direction. In particular, China’s “targeted poverty alleviation” strategy was highlighted as an effective approach to strengthening the rural economy.

The program witnessed notable participation from diplomats, social workers, journalists, and members of the general public. Participants emphasized the need for Nepal to leverage its rich cultural and natural heritage as capital while learning from the Chinese development model.

The dialogue is expected to elevate Nepal–China relations to a new height and further enhance cooperation in the exchange of development models. The program clearly signaled that President Xi Jinping’s economic thinking is beginning to enter Nepal’s policy-making sphere as well.
