Clash on Afghanistan-Pakistan Border: Hail of Bullets and Shells, Casualties Feared

Kabul: Local media reports indicate that the exchange of fire between Afghanistan and Pakistan in the border area on Tuesday afternoon is still ongoing.

According to sources, the skirmish occurred in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, in areas bordering Pakistan. It is feared that both sides have used heavy weapons and that there may have been many casualties. So far, neither government has issued an official statement on the matter.

Earlier, Afghanistan had warned that it would retaliate against the airstrikes carried out by Pakistan on Sunday. Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Afghan government, had stated on Monday itself that the Pakistani attack would be responded to.

The Afghan side claims that 18 people were killed and five others injured in the Pakistani airstrikes on Sunday. However, the Pakistani military has stated that following suicide bombings, it conducted targeted strikes on seven terrorist camps and hideouts in the border area, killing over 80 terrorists.
