Russia Condemns Attack on Iran as ‘Premeditated and Unprovoked Aggression’: Says ‘Tel Aviv and Washington Played a Dangerous Gamble’

Kathmandu – Russia has strongly condemned the military attack launched by the United States and Israel on Iran. In a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, it informed that US and Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on Iran on the morning of February 28.
Russia has termed this attack as a ‘premeditated and unprovoked military aggression’ against a member state of the United Nations. According to the ministry, the concentration of large US military forces in the region and the prior propaganda preparations clearly indicate that this attack was carried out in violation of international law.
Russia has also objected to the timing of the attack, which occurred while a negotiation process was underway to normalize the situation around Iran. It stated that despite Israel signaling to Russia that it did not seek military conflict with Iran, this attack still took place.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has demanded that the international community, including the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), immediately conduct an objective assessment of these irresponsible steps that are destroying peace and stability in the Middle East.
“Washington and Tel Aviv have once again played a dangerous gamble, pushing the region towards a humanitarian, economic, and radiological catastrophe,” the statement said.
Stating that the intentions of the aggressors are clear, Russia accused them of aiming to dismantle Iran’s constitutional order and eliminate its leadership. Russia asserted that full responsibility for the negative consequences of this manufactured crisis lies with the US and Israel.
Russia warned that this step by the US and Israel would also seriously impact global efforts for nuclear non-proliferation. It stated that bombing nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards is unacceptable.
Russia has demanded that the US and Israel immediately steer the situation back towards a political-diplomatic solution. It also stated that Russia is ready to assist in finding a peaceful resolution based on international law, mutual respect, and a balance of interests.
