“When Singha Durbar Burned, Dreams Burned”: KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu. On the cusp of the election, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has released an emotional video message, urging the public to vote for his party to protect the country and the constitution. Recalling the arson attacks on Singha Durbar, the Supreme Court, the Parliament building, and police posts on Bhadra 24, Oli stated that the people’s dreams had burned along with the structures at that time.
Noting that he is in the electoral contest in the later part of his life, Oli said, “May you have the self-satisfaction that I made a decision in favor of the nation. My days to live are fewer than the days I have already lived, but I am fighting for those who have more days to live than I have already lived.”
Clarifying that ‘Nation First’ means putting the constitution, rules, and people’s rights first, he said, “Only if the constitution survives, will your rights survive. Today, we need a guarantee that the constitution will not be shaken, rules will not be broken, and rights will not be trampled.”
Stating that public property is a symbol of the people’s taxes and trust, Oli pointed out that when those structures burned, the people’s dreams also burned, emphasizing the need for a guarantee that they will never be burned again. “‘Nation First’ means national independence and self-respect first. The power to take pride in one’s own soil, borders, and identity is our moral strength,” he said.
Stating that it was his duty to speak in favor of the nation while standing at the final turn of life, Oli urged voters to be conscious. He said, “If you do not make clear which side you are on at this time and do not speak for it, not only will history never forgive you, but you will never forgive yourself.”
