American Peace Ambassador in Wolf’s Clothing: The Oil Politics of the Middle East Exposed

Kathmandu, March 3 — Chinese media have exposed US policies in the Middle East through a satirical cartoon. Titled “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing,” the cartoon sharply critiques America’s greed for control over Middle Eastern oil and its tendency to cloak this pursuit in the guise of peaceful diplomacy.

In the cartoon, the Middle East region is depicted with the word “OIL” written three times, while US leadership is portrayed as a wolf carrying a flag of peace. Analysts suggest this illustrates that America’s true interest in the Middle East is oil, which it publicly labels as promoting peace and democracy.

Through this cartoon, China’s influential media outlet, China Daily, has satirized decades of US intervention in the Middle East, its tough policies against Iran, and the instability caused by oil politics. It also highlights China’s style of diplomacy and the concept of “peaceful development” in various parts of the world.

Amid rising tensions in West Asia, China had recently appealed for peace in the Strait of Hormuz. This cartoon also reflects China’s role in fostering smoother relations with Iran and its efforts to maintain balance amidst Western pressure.

According to analysts, this satire by Chinese media reflects Beijing’s growing disagreement with US foreign policy and its vision of an alternative world order. The cartoon further reinforces the Chinese narrative that America pursues its own interests in the Middle East under the pretext of peace and stability.
