Russia-Brunei Talks: Elevating 35 Years of Diplomatic Relations to New Heights

Moscow – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei-Darussalam, Dato’ Erywan Pehin Yusof, held significant talks in Moscow on March 3. The meeting, which took place on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, included discussions on various dimensions of bilateral ties.
It was reported that the talks focused on deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including energy, agriculture, finance, banking, and tourism. An agreement was reached to advance collaboration in these sectors with the aim of elevating bilateral relations to a new level.
The two ministers also engaged in extensive deliberations on key international and regional agenda items. Expressing serious concern over the escalating tensions in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, both sides emphasized the need for peaceful solutions.
Special attention was given to strengthening cooperation within the framework of the Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership. Lavrov, describing Brunei as an active and respected member of ASEAN, stated that cooperation within this format would benefit both sides.
It is believed that this meeting will not only give a new direction to Russia-Brunei relations but also to the ties between Russia and ASEAN.
