11 Police Personnel Deployed for Election Security Killed

Ramechhap — Eleven election police personnel, who were enlisted for 40 days of government service, have lost their lives while on election security duty. They breathed their last in various accidents and incidents across different districts.

According to the Police Headquarters, one person died in Rupandehi, two in Bara, one in Mahottari, and one in Nawalparasi. On Falgun 18, 24-year-old election police personnel Pawan Kumar Shah died after being hit by a vehicle in a road accident in Makwanpur. Shah, a native of Rautahat, was deployed at the Area Police Office Pashupatinagar.

Similarly, a tragic incident occurred in Ramechhap as well. Polling Officer Dor Prasad Ghimire, 57, died in a vehicle accident while heading from Manthali to Shitaldevi Secondary School in Siruwari and the ward office building located in Ramechhap Municipality-3. He was carrying ballot papers. The deceased Ghimire was a resident of Bhainseshwar, Manthali Municipality-1.

The sacrifice of these security personnel and employees deployed for election security and management reminds us of the contribution of every individual engaged in making the voting process safe. Their demise underscores the need for increased vigilance in security management for future elections.

The Police Headquarters has expressed grief over the incident, paid tribute to the deceased, and extended condolences to their family members.
