Peaceful Election in Jhapa Highlights Strong Security Leadership of SP Basundhara Khadka

Kathmandu — The recently concluded election in Jhapa District has once again demonstrated that strong security management plays a vital role in strengthening democratic processes. The leadership shown by district police chief Basundhara Khadka, who was transferred to Jhapa just before the election, is now being widely praised.

Jhapa had drawn national attention during the election as it became the battleground between prominent political figures, including Balen Shah and K. P. Sharma Oli. With such high-profile candidates competing, security concerns in the district were also expected to be significant.

However, under the effective command, strategic planning, and coordination led by SP Basundhara Khadka, voting across the district was conducted peacefully, systematically, and in a dignified manner.

During elections, even minor incidents can escalate into major disputes. Yet in Jhapa, the democratic process was completed successfully without any major disruptions, highlighting the professionalism and responsibility of the security administration.

Many people on social media have also expressed appreciation for the role of the security forces, writing that “when security institutions are strong, democracy also becomes stronger.”

Observers say the successful management of the election in Jhapa has helped ensure a smooth democratic process for selecting new leadership. According to many, the effectiveness of the security mechanism and strong leadership played a crucial role in making this important democratic exercise a success.
