Russian Consulate Damaged in Iran, Moscow Condemns Attack on Diplomatic Mission

Kathmandu / The Russian Consulate General in the Iranian city of Isfahan has been damaged as a result of an attack on a nearby gubernatorial office. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova provided this information on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on social media, Zakharova stated that attacks on diplomatic and consular missions constitute a flagrant violation of fundamental norms of international law.

“We demand that all parties strictly respect the inviolability of diplomatic facilities and refrain from any attacks on the safety, life and health of their personnel,” she said.

Zakharova also urged parties to the conflict to immediately end military confrontation and return to the negotiating table.

In the statement, Zakharova explained that the incident occurred on March 8 during an attack targeting the Isfahan provincial governor’s office, located near the Russian consulate.

According to her, the blast shattered windows in the consulate’s office building and residential apartments, and several staff members were thrown back by the shockwave. Fortunately, there were no casualties or serious injuries, she added.
