UML on the Brink of Split: Yogesh Bhattarai’s Resignation Demand and ‘Agent’ Controversy Heats Up Party

Kathmandu / A major internal conflict has begun within the CPN-UML under the guise of an election review. After Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai raised questions about the party’s current leadership and demanded resignation and restructuring, a senior party leader has labeled him an ‘agent operating from a certain power center.’

Deputy General Secretary Bhattarai, who has been openly discussing the party’s post-election situation, has been presenting his views across various media platforms, advocating for leadership change and party reorganization. He has also warned that if the leadership is not ready for reorganization, he will be compelled to take unpleasant decisions.

Meanwhile, Gandaki Province Health Minister and leader Krishna Pathak, considered close to Chairman KP Sharma Oli, has leveled serious accusations against Bhattarai. Writing a lengthy status on social media, Pathak stated, “UML needs correction and will get it. But anarchic, intolerant, extremely prejudiced people like Yogesh, who is an agent operated by a certain power center to finish UML, must be brought under disciplinary action.”

Pathak’s remarks have further brought the party’s internal conflict to the surface. On one hand, young leader Bhattarai has taken up the agenda of party reform, while on the other hand, the traditional leadership has accused him of engaging in anti-party activities.

Political analysts view this dispute within UML as a struggle for the party’s future leadership and policy direction. It remains to be seen what form this dispute will take in the coming days and how it will impact party unity.
