A Message of Fraternity Against the Blockade: Reviewing the Strategic Partnership Between Russia and Cuba

Moscow – The meeting held today in Moscow between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez, has further strengthened the strategic partnership between the two nations. During the meeting, Russia reaffirmed its unwavering support and solidarity with Cuba amidst the challenging circumstances created by the American blockade.
According to a statement released after the talks, the two ministers engaged in in-depth discussions on various dimensions of trade, investment, and financial cooperation. This dialogue comes at a particularly significant time when the United States is threatening to impose new sanctions against Cuba, further tightening a blockade that has persisted for over 70 years.
Lavrov stated, “We strongly condemn the American blockade against Cuba. The US continues this inhumane action despite widespread pressure from the international community. We will continue to stand firmly for the protection of the sovereignty and security of the Cuban people and government.”
He further emphasized, “Portraying the cooperation between Russia and Cuba as a threat to US security is completely false and malicious. All international issues must be resolved only through dialogue that seeks mutual respect and a balance of interests.”
Cuban Foreign Minister Rodríguez welcomed Russia’s stance, saying, “The brotherly support and strategic partnership shown by Russia in this difficult hour has provided great confidence and strength to the Cuban people.” He also expressed outrage over a recent US decree that lists Cuba as a threat to American national security.
During the talks, the two ministers also held detailed discussions on the deteriorating situation in Latin America and its regional implications. Both sides stressed the need for mutual respect and interest in international relations.
It is believed that this meeting will elevate the diplomatic relations between the two countries to new heights and further strengthen their cooperation within United Nations forums. Lavrov expressed confidence that the visit by the Cuban delegation will make bilateral relations even stronger.
