Agreement to Improve Bilateral Relations in the 10th Year of Strategic Partnership

Kathmandu — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has stated that China is ready to bring bilateral relations between China and the Czech Republic back on the track of healthy development and make up for lost time. Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks during a meeting held at the request of Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Czech strategic partnership, Wang Yi said that while the two countries have a tradition of friendly relations, bilateral ties have experienced ups and downs in recent years, which serves the interests of neither side.

Wang Yi mentioned that China appreciates the proactive commitment shown by the new Czech government to improve relations with China. He said, “China is ready to jointly work towards the early return of bilateral relations to the path of healthy and stable development.”

Wang Yi expressed the expectation that the Czech side will establish a correct perception of China, sincerely abide by the One-China principle, and respect China’s core interests. He emphasized that both sides should encourage exchanges at all levels and in various fields, and enhance mutual understanding and trust, which will lay a solid foundation for practical cooperation.

Czech Foreign Minister Macinka, terming China a global power, stated that the Czech Republic attaches great importance to the traditional friendly relations between the two nations. Taking the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership as an opportunity, he said the Czech Republic is eager to open a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Macinka emphasized that the Czech Republic is firmly committed to the One-China policy. He said, “The Czech Republic recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and respects and supports China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

He added that the Czech side expects to improve relations with China, resume high-level exchanges, and advance cooperation in areas such as trade and commerce, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

This meeting is believed to give a new direction to relations between China and the Czech Republic, where both sides have shown commitment to advancing relations based on mutual interest and respect.
