Candidates from Parsa and Siraha Arrested on Election Eve

Kathmandu – As the final stage of the House of Representatives election approaches, police have arrested two candidates in Parsa and Siraha. Manoj Chaudhary, the CPN-UML candidate from Parsa constituency No. 2, and Asheshwar Yadav, the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal candidate from Siraha constituency No. 3, were taken under police control on Tuesday.
In Parsa, DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, spokesperson for the District Police Office Parsa, informed that candidate Chaudhary was taken under control after a suspicious object was found in the vehicle he was traveling in during a routine security check in the Badnihar area. According to him, four individuals including Chaudhary have been detained and an investigation is underway.
Similarly, in Siraha, candidate Yadav was arrested while traveling with a large sum of money during the silent period. According to Siraha police, Yadav, who was traveling in a Scorpio vehicle with registration number Pradesh 2-02-001 Ch 087 from the Nepal-India border area of Madar towards Siraha headquarters, was stopped by police during a check. Police stated that after finding NPR 487,000 inside the vehicle, Yadav was taken under control. Along with candidate Yadav, five other individuals traveling in the vehicle have also been arrested.
Police have stated that further investigation into both incidents is ongoing. These arrests have sparked discussion in political circles at a time when the Election Commission has been warning of strict action against activities violating the election code of conduct.
