Chief Commissioner Receives Death Threat, 10-Day Ultimatum

Kathmandu — Prem Kumar Rai, the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), has received a death threat from the ‘Extremist Group of Nepal’ (EGN). This extremist group has issued a 10-day ultimatum for Rai to resign.
In an email sent under the name of EGN’s ‘Chairman’ Prakash Pathak, the group has claimed that its central committee has decided to assassinate 10 individuals it labels as the “most corrupt officials in the country,” and that Chief Commissioner Rai’s name is on this list.
The threat letter explicitly states, “You must resign within 10 days, otherwise you will be killed. You can fulfill your last wish during this period.”
The threatening group has claimed that they will not carry out the assassinations directly, but have planned to use fugitive prisoners for this task, providing them with funds and taking responsibility. The letter mentions, “We do not assassinate personally, but those escaped prisoners will do it for us. We will fund them and will be responsible for the incident.”
This incident has raised serious concerns regarding the security of high-ranking officials. Police Spokesperson Kishor Raj Pandey stated, “We have taken this matter seriously and have initiated an investigation. All efforts are underway to identify the group issuing the threats and learn about their plans.”
