China Contributes Over 60 Percent to Global Courier Parcel Growth

Beijing — During the period of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), China accounted for more than 60 percent of global growth in courier parcel volumes. According to official data, China’s annual parcel volume during this period reached nearly 200 billion items.

Data released at the National Postal Work Conference held on Wednesday show that in 2025, the total revenue of China’s postal industry reached 1.8 trillion yuan (approximately USD 256.5 billion). The sector recorded an average annual growth rate of over 10 percent throughout the five-year period.

Alongside the rapid expansion of the industry, per capita annual parcel usage rose to 141 items. During this period, the highest single-day parcel handling volume reached as many as 777 million items.

Prioritizing the expansion of domestic logistics access, free e-commerce delivery services have been extended to remote regions including Xinjiang and Xizang (Tibet), said Zhao Chongjiu, head of the State Post Bureau.

Zhao noted that the share of courier activity in central and western China has increased significantly, helping to more firmly integrate these regions into the national market.

At the same time, the industry has undergone high-tech transformation. Large sorting centers have become largely automated, while drones and autonomous vehicles are entering regular operation.

Looking ahead to 2026, the bureau has outlined plans to promote unmanned delivery technologies and green logistics. It also pledged to strengthen international services by expanding overseas warehouses and air cargo hubs.
