China Makes Significant Investments in Water Conservation, Exceeding Trillion Yuan for Four Consecutive Years

Beijing, China – China has completed an investment of 5.68 trillion yuan (approximately 810 billion US dollars) in water conservancy during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). Chinese Vice Minister of Water Resources, Chen Min, provided this information on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference, he said, “Since 2022, the country’s annual investment in water conservancy projects has exceeded 1 trillion yuan for four consecutive years.”
According to the press conference, by the end of 2025, the country’s effectively irrigated farmland had reached 1.09 billion mu (approximately 72.67 million hectares), which is an increase of more than 53 million mu compared to the end of 2020.
Furthermore, access to tap water in rural areas has been continuously expanding. By the end of 2025, the national rural tap water coverage rate had reached 96 percent.
