China Study Center Warns the Government

“Without China’s Trust, Nepal’s Existence Will Be Weakened”

Kathmandu – The China Study Center has strongly condemned what it describes as the China-hostile policies of the Sushila Karki–led government and efforts to promote the “Free Tibet” campaign within Nepal. In a statement issued by the Center’s President, Madan Regmi, the government, administration, security agencies, and political parties have been warned to preserve the status quo of the centuries-old friendly relations between Nepal and China.

The statement highlights the historical background of Nepal–China relations, including economic, cultural, social, religious, and blood ties, defense cooperation dating back to the 7th century, and the historic Betravati Treaty of 1792. Emphasizing these points, President Regmi stated, “Without China’s support, goodwill, and trust, Nepal’s existence will become even more fragile, and the dream of a dignified life for the Nepali people will move further away. This is an undeniable reality.”

The statement also expresses dissatisfaction with elements that have recently become active in Nepal around the Tibetan issue and delivers a clear message urging the government to exercise sensitivity in its relations with China. The China Study Center is an institution engaged in the study and analysis of Nepal–China bilateral relations.
