This celebration reflects our country’s profound love and reverence for its Army and Navy. It honors those who embrace military service as their calling and highest duty, those who stand unwavering in defense of the Motherland. Military service in Russia has always been a source of pride and respect. Our history strengthens the patriotic spirit passed down through generations.
We draw inspiration from Russia’s centuries-old victorious traditions. We remember the bravery, faith, and courage of our ancestors who fought on the icy slopes of Lake Peipus, on the Kulikovo Field, who defended Moscow in the 16th century, safeguarded the nation in times of crisis, triumphed at Poltava, earned glory at Borodino, defended Sevastopol during the Crimean War, displayed unmatched valor in the battles of World War I, and defeated Nazism in World War II, culminating in the victory in Berlin.
This year, marking the 80th anniversary of that Great Victory, Russia has declared it the “Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.” We pay tribute to the unyielding, indomitable generations of victors whose heroism and sacrifice granted the world historic triumph. Today, we honor the heroes who continue their ancestors’ legacy with pride on the battlefield.

Based on strategic assessments of weaponry and technology, we will ensure uninterrupted supplies of modern arms and gear. We are equally focused on improving social protections for our servicemen and their families.
