Conspiracy to Grant Immunity to Vandals Unacceptable
Editorial

The land of Nepal is the land of heroes. The soil here carries the history of martyrs’ blood, dreams, and sacrifices. But today, a conspiracy is underway to tarnish that very history. The news that the interim government led by Sushila Karki is preparing to grant a general amnesty to those involved in the Gen Z vandalism that occurred on Bhadra 24 has ignited the hearts of every Nepali.
Singha Durbar is the center of Nepal’s sovereignty. Looting police weapons there, setting government buildings on fire, arson at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority office, and vandalizing and setting fire to the private residences of high-ranking government officials is not merely a crime; it is a direct attack on the nation’s symbol, sovereignty, and constitutional order. Those who raised their hands against the nation’s property and security have insulted the Nepali people themselves.
Those who are now being prepared to grant immunity are the very individuals who snatched police weapons and paraded them naked, who torched government vehicles, who set fire to the homes of ministers and high-ranking officials. Such vandals have challenged the very principles of the rule of law and peaceful coexistence. If they are granted impunity, others will follow the same path tomorrow. Therefore, the demand of patriotic citizens is not impunity, but exemplary punishment.
It is unfortunate that a mandate-less interim government is making such a sensitive decision at a time of political instability. This clearly shows that the government is not only weak but also under the pressure of anarchy. Patriotic people will never accept such a step. The government must understand – an attack on justice and the rule of law is an attack on the nation’s security itself.
Families rendered homeless by the vandalism, those who lost loved ones, terrified citizens – they all hoped for justice. The heat of the fire still burns in their eyes. Granting impunity to the vandals while ignoring their suffering would be an insult to both humanity and national morality.
On behalf of every Nepali who loves this land, we urge the interim government – do not commit injustice upon justice. Immediately stop the conspiracy to grant immunity to the vandals. Remain committed to national unity, sovereignty, and the rule of law. If this step is taken forward, it will generate immense anger among patriotic citizens. The nation’s interest must always remain above political self-interest.
Patriotism is not just about waving a flag; it is about defending the constitution, law, and justice. Those who disrespect the constitution and law cannot be called patriots. Therefore, in this hour, the duty of patriotic citizens is to stand on the side of justice, raise their voices against the vandals, and strengthen national unity.
The preparation to grant general amnesty to the Gen Z vandals is not only an assault on justice but also a threat to national identity and security. Stopping this is the duty of every Nepali. May the government listen to the people’s voice, may the vandals receive punishment within the legal framework, and may the reign of justice prevail on the soil of Nepal.
