CPN (Majority) Announces Nepal Bandh on Falgun 5, Demanding Election Annulment

Kathmandu – The CPN (Majority) led by Dharmendra Bastola, which has been boycotting elections, has announced a Nepal banda (shutdown) on the upcoming Falgun 5. The party issued a notice today, calling for the bandh with the demand for the formation of an all-party government.

The statement issued by the party reads, “We would like to inform you that our party has organized a Nepal banda on this Falgun 5, to annul the so-called election scheduled for Falgun 21 under an imperialist design, to struggle against foreign oppression and interference, to protect national independence, and to advance on the path of establishing an independent joint government.”

The party has also presented other reasons for the Nepal banda in bullet points. These demands include creating a people’s constitution, ending corruption and black-marketeering, creating employment opportunities to retain youths within the country, providing land to the landless, and making education, health, and transportation free of cost.

It is noteworthy that the CPN (Majority) has been boycotting elections for a long time and has been conducting protest programs at various stages. The party has also warned that it will continue its agitation until its demands are met.

Following the announcement of this bandh, security arrangements have been tightened, and there is concern among the general public about what impact the protest might have. Meanwhile, the police have already arrested Durga Prasai from his residence.
