Demand for Arrest Over King’s Statement: Nationalists vs. Traitors’ Struggle

Kathmandu / A new debate has emerged in Nepal’s political circle. Various reactions have been coming forth after former King Gyanendra Shah, in a message issued on the occasion of the 75th Democracy Day, expressed the view that the upcoming elections are against public sentiment and that the country needs to be brought onto the right track through political consensus.

After Professor Dr. Krishna Khanal expressed the view that Gyanendra should be arrested, it has sparked intense anger among nationalists. Nepalis who feel nationalist have termed Khanal’s expression as representing the mindset of foreign mercenaries (agents).

According to them, there is currently a predominance of foreign pets and traitors in the country, and nationalists are forced to be in a minority. It has been commented that academic personalities like Khanal, who remained silent while the country was continuously looted for over three decades in the name of a republic, now demanding the arrest of the King for speaking about the country’s future is a shameful act.

In this context, questions have also been raised about the role of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Nationalists argue that it is futile to expect morality, good governance, and honesty from a government whose Home Minister instructs not to take action against those involved in setting fire to Singha Durbar, committing murder, and engaging in robbery and theft. They have accused this government of creating a situation that exemplifies the saying, “The innocent are crucified, while the thieves preside.”

Sarcastically commenting on Prof. Dr. Khanal’s expression, a nationalist said, “You are not a guru (teacher/guide), but an ox prodded in their gambling game by foreigners. Your silence when a corrupt person like Sushila Karki was made Prime Minister, and your objection today to the King’s expression, has exposed your tendency to serve foreign masters.”

It is being commented that due to the continuous plunder and immoral politics that has been going on for 36 years in the name of the republic, no leader today remains untainted or moral. The common citizenry complains that among the representatives they themselves elected, some turned out to be fraudsters and some foreign agents.

In such a dire situation, with no one speaking up for the protection of the country, many are challenging Khanal to show the courage to arrest them instead when former King Gyanendra speaks. At a time when the country is run by a crowd of Lucifers and nationalists are cornered, it remains to be seen how history will judge the expressions of foreign agents like Khanal.
