Demand for Prasai’s Release Intensifies with Tyre Burning in Trikune, Habeas Corpus Petition Filed

Kathmandu / Supporters of Durga Prasai staged a protest in the Trikune area of Kathmandu on Tuesday evening, demanding his release. During the protest, supporters burned tyres on the street in an attempt to pressure the police administration to release Prasai immediately.

Prasai, who was arrested last night, has been granted permission by the police to be held in custody for an additional four days. He was arrested based on a letter from the Election Commission on charges of violating the election code of conduct. According to police sources, he will only be released after necessary investigations.

Meanwhile, Prasai’s lawyers have filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court on his behalf. The petition was registered today, but with public holidays tomorrow and the day after, the court is likely to hear the matter only on Friday.

Protesters are demanding Prasai’s release, claiming the charges against him are politically motivated. The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has stated that while police deployment has been increased in the Trikune area, the situation remains normal.
