Donald Trump’s Second Term and America’s Plan to Occupy Gaza

# Prem Sagar Poudel

Donald Trump is planning to make several surprising and controversial decisions in his second term. He is not a politician, but a real estate businessman. However, since he was elected President of the United States, he is allowed to be President and make policy changes under the US Constitution. However, he cannot become a world emperor under any circumstances.

In the current world order, America is a superpower, granting its president a vast sphere of political, diplomatic, economic, and military influence. However, the leader of any nation must understand that power is always limited. Surprise and outrage spread around the world after Trump announced his plan to occupy Gaza during a press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, 2025.

On January 20, 2025, he claimed that he had done an Israel-Hamas ceasefire. What was even more surprising was that, on January 7, 2025, he expressed his desire to annex Canada into U.S. territory, seize the Panama Canal, and acquire Greenland from Denmark using military force. All of these statements show that the US President has seriously challenged the things to respect international law.

Trump’s Plan to Occupy Gaza

Trump announced that the entire structure of Gaza had been destroyed and that it would be rebuilt which create thousands of jobs. He said, “There will be a permanent American presence in Gaza, which will bring durability to the Middle East.” Netanyahu also supported Trump’s plan to reconstruct Gaza under a new framework to ensure Israel’s security.

However, Gaza’s more than two million citizens have faced destruction, with more than 47,000 innocent civilians killed in the last 18 months. Trump has suggested they be relocated to Egypt and Jordan. However, leaders of Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia have rejected Trump’s claims.

International Legal Implications

Trump’s plan constitutes a severe violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and human rights principles. International courts have already taken Israel’s military actions in Gaza as war crimes. The United Nations has reported that 70% of Gaza’s territory has been completely destroyed.

China’s Perspective

China has always supported a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. China will completely reject Trump’s plan to turn Gaza into a US colony. In addition, China will take the initiative to rebuild Gaza in cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and other international organizations.

Conclusion

Donald Trump’s audacious plan is sure to exacerbate the conflict in the Middle East, not bring peace. The international community must take decisive action to prevent Gaza from becoming an American colony. China, Russia, Muslim nations, and the United Nations need to make a coordinated effort to rebuild Gaza. This cruel and impractical plan put forward by Trump will further threaten world peace and durability.
