‘Economy to Reach 100 Kharb in Five Years, Minimum Salary 25 Thousand’: UML Unveils Election Manifesto

Kathmandu – CPN-UML has unveiled its election manifesto for the upcoming House of Representatives election, featuring ambitious targets. The manifesto, released by UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at an event organized at the party’s central office in Chyasali, promises to increase the size of Nepal’s economy to 100 Kharb (100 billion? *Note: 1 Kharb = 10 billion, so 100 Kharb = 1 Trillion) rupees within the next five years.

The manifesto also sets the goal of doubling the economy to 200 Kharb (2 Trillion) rupees within a decade. To achieve this, UML has targeted achieving annual economic growth of 7 to 9 percent.

UML has included a list of 11 immediate tasks in the manifesto, to be implemented from the very first meeting of the Council of Ministers formed after the elections. Chairman Oli stated that these tasks will be completed within fixed timelines.

According to the manifesto, UML will provide interest-free loans of up to 20 lakh rupees to students wishing to pursue higher education. Similarly, it has committed to increasing the minimum monthly salary of workers to 25 thousand rupees, raising the annual allowance of health volunteers to 20 thousand rupees, and enrolling them in the contributory social security scheme.

The manifesto also includes plans to provide interest-free loans of up to 20 lakh rupees to promote women’s entrepreneurship, forgive loans of up to 25 thousand rupees for poor families, and provide a nutrition allowance of 20 thousand rupees to postpartum women.

UML has also put forward youth-focused plans, including providing 10 GB of free internet data per month for one year to youths aged 18 to 28, and providing a bank card equivalent to 10 thousand US dollars to youths wishing to venture into the information technology sector.

In the manifesto, UML has presented five fundamental declarations and 25 pillars of prosperity. UML leaders stated that a blueprint for economic prosperity has been prepared, prioritizing sectors such as agriculture, energy, industry, tourism, physical infrastructure, information technology, education, health, and good governance.

Chairman Oli stated that this manifesto represents UML’s commitment as a ‘nation-building’ force. “This manifesto shows a clear path for development and prosperity, and the responsibility to implement it is ours,” he said.
