German Chancellor Merz’s Visit to China: Elevating Bilateral Relations to New Heights

Beijing – Germany’s newly appointed Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, is on a two-day official visit to China. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning provided this information during a regular press briefing, noting that this is Merz’s first visit to China since assuming office.

According to spokesperson Mao, Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to hold talks with Chancellor Merz during the visit. Similarly, Premier Li Qiang will meet with Merz to exchange views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

Highlighting the comprehensive strategic partnership and win-win cooperation between China and Germany, Mao stated, “High-level exchanges between the two countries have been maintained regularly, and practical cooperation has continued to deepen. Our mutually beneficial collaboration has delivered tangible benefits to the peoples of both nations.”

She further noted that as the world’s second- and third-largest economies, the steady development of relations between China and Germany is not only important for the two countries but is also expected by the international community. “China views this visit as an opportunity to enhance mutual understanding and trust with Germany, deepen practical cooperation, and elevate China-Germany relations to a new level,” Mao said. “We are also ready to contribute to global peace and prosperity.”
