Guterres’ Warning: Middle East ‘Could Spiral Beyond Control’, Urgent Talks Needed

United Nations — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that the situation in the Middle East “could spiral beyond anyone’s control.” In a statement issued on Friday, he urged an end to the fighting and a move towards serious diplomatic negotiations.

All unlawful attacks in the Middle East and beyond are causing tremendous suffering and harm to civilians throughout the region and posing a grave risk to the global economy, particularly to the most vulnerable people, Guterres said.

“The stakes could not be higher,” he stated.
