China’s state-run media outlet Kangba TV has published an inspiring story about Gojo village in Chamdo, located in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The report presents an exemplary case of community cooperation and commitment to education.<\/p>\n

Situated in a high-altitude mountainous area along Tibet’s eastern border, Samdrub village is home to 112 households and 784 residents. What sets this seemingly ordinary village apart is that the entire community has collectively supported 113 university graduates through their education. This achievement has earned it the moniker “The Village of Graduates” across the Gojo region.<\/p>\n

According to the Kangba TV report, when Zhang Xinping first arrived as the village’s party secretary and task force leader in early 2024, he was astonished by this unique accomplishment. “While many villages in the Gojo region had only a handful of university graduates, I was amazed to see the list of university graduates displayed on Samdrub village’s notice board,” he stated.<\/p>\n

The village’s educational revolution began with a young man named Nyima Tashi. Earlier, while studying at a county-level secondary school, he had been forced to drop out and return home due to his family’s financial circumstances. After repeated requests and support from fellow villagers, his mother was eventually moved, and his father sold off family livestock to fund his education. Nyima Tashi completed his studies at a vocational school in Chamdo city, passed the university entrance examination, and ultimately earned a postgraduate degree from the Tibet Traditional Medical University, becoming a doctor.<\/p>\n

This success brought about a significant shift in the village’s mindset. Today, the topic of pride is no longer how many sheep and yaks a household owns, but rather how many graduates have emerged from each family. According to Kangba TV, 26 graduates have now returned to the village to pursue entrepreneurship. Among them, some serve in the village’s local bodies, some are leading local industries, and others are engaged in selling specialty products from the high-altitude region.<\/p>\n

The village’s economic standing has also been steadily strengthening. In 2025, the village’s collective economy generated a total income of 50 million yuan, of which the village committee allocated 15 percent to the “Samdrub Village Education Welfare Fund.” This fund provides support to students enrolling in universities and to families facing financial hardship.<\/p>\n
