The liberal international framework established under American leadership after 1945 is gradually becoming part of history, and this visit has effectively sketched the outline of a new multipolar balance of power that is now taking shape.<\/p>\n

The visit comes at a time when the world is simultaneously confronting four major geopolitical storms. The Russia\u2013Ukraine war is nearing its fifth year without resolution. The U.S.\u2013Iran confrontation has escalated into daily military tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. South Asia remains unstable amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India, while strategic competition between China and the United States in the Indo-Pacific has reached unprecedented levels. In the midst of these volatile circumstances, the dialogue between Trump and Xi has delivered a clear message to the world: there is no alternative to communication and cooperation between the world\u2019s two largest economies.<\/p>\n

Positioned amid major infrastructure initiatives such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact and China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative, Nepal must demonstrate the wisdom to treat these frameworks not as rivals, but as complementary opportunities. While China continues investing in roads, railways, and hydropower, the United States has been supporting electricity transmission and road upgrades through grants. These initiatives are not inherently contradictory.<\/p>\n

However, Nepal must first put its own house in order. Recent controversies surrounding Prime Minister Balen Shah \u2014 including leaving the parliamentary chamber during the presidential address, remaining absent during discussions on government policies and programs, and appearing to challenge traditions of parliamentary accountability \u2014 have raised serious questions about Nepal\u2019s democratic and parliamentary culture. A country seeking respectful relations with major powers must first demonstrate respect for its own democratic institutions and parliamentary norms. Unless the government prioritizes internal good governance and parliamentary accountability, Nepal\u2019s voice on the international stage will remain weak.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Trump\u2019s Beijing visit sends Nepal a clear message: the multipolar world is no longer confined to theoretical discussions; it has already become reality. In this new era, Nepal can secure its place not merely through its status as a small nation, but through smart diplomacy and a clear national vision. Nepal must not miss the opportunity to position itself as a bridge between China and the United States while embracing both the MCC and BRI frameworks. Yet this will only be possible if the country succeeds in strengthening democracy, institutional credibility, and parliamentary dignity within its own borders.<\/p>\n
