Beijing. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia-China relations have reached a truly unprecedented level and continue to develop. Addressing the press following Russia-China talks in Beijing on May 20, he said the bilateral relationship is self-sustaining, independent of the current global environment, and serves as a model for how relations between countries and peoples should be built today.<\/p>\n

Putin said that the talks took place in a traditionally warm, comradely and constructive atmosphere, and that all key areas of bilateral cooperation were discussed in detail. He stated that the Joint Statement adopted following the talks outlines the priority areas of Russia-China interaction. A substantial package of intergovernmental, interagency and corporate documents\u2014around 40 in total\u2014was also signed, many of which are aimed at further deepening economic cooperation.

Emphasising that Russia and China are important trading partners for each other, Putin noted that trade turnover reached almost 240 billion dollars in 2025, while its structure expanded, including through goods with high added value. He described the coordinated steps to switch settlements to national currencies as a move of major importance, stating that practically all Russia-China export-import operations are now carried out in rubles and yuan. “In effect, we have built a stable system of mutual trade that is protected from external influence and negative trends on global markets,” Putin said.<\/p>\n

Russia is modernising key railway lines in the eastern direction, such as the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur mainlines, Putin stated. The infrastructure of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, including its main artery\u2014the Northern Sea Route\u2014is also being consistently expanded.<\/p>\n

Following the successful cross Years of Culture, Russia and China are launching new major interstate humanitarian projects, including the Russia-China Year of Education, Putin said, adding that its programme includes hundreds of different events such as conferences, seminars, concerts, exhibitions, master classes, and contests.<\/p>\n

Putin said that he and President Xi also exchanged views on current international issues, and a Joint Declaration was adopted following that exchange, confirming and reflecting the convergence of the two countries’ principled approaches. “The key point is that Russia and China are committed to an independent and self-reliant foreign policy, act in close strategic coordination, and play an important stabilising role on the world stage,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Putin said that Russia supports the priorities of China’s APEC presidency this year and shall provide all necessary assistance in their practical implementation. He further stated that the two countries will continue to closely coordinate their positions in multilateral formats such as the G20, the World Trade Organisation, the World Bank, the IMF, and the New Development Bank. He also expressed the intention to facilitate the alignment of integration processes within the Eurasian Economic Union and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, with a view to forming the Greater Eurasian Partnership.<\/p>\n
