The cruelest face of war is not when soldiers are the targets of weapons, but when innocent children are. The attack that took place on the night of May 22 in Starobilsk, Lugansk People’s Republic, has exposed this very most inhuman character of war. This attack, in which the Kiev regime used four fixed-wing UAVs to strike the academic building and dormitory of the Starobilsk Vocational College, has raised serious questions that ought to command the attention of the international community.<\/p>\n

According to available details, at the time of the attack, 86 children aged 14 to 18 were asleep inside the five-storey dormitory building. The drone attack on this building, which had no military facilities, no intelligence service offices, or any security agency presence, came in three waves. Sixteen UAVs targeted the same site. This could not have been accidental. It was premeditated, calculated, and directed.<\/p>\n

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in his address, “There are no military facilities, no intelligence or related service facilities near the dormitory. Therefore, there are no grounds whatsoever to claim that the projectiles hit the building as a result of our air defence or electronic warfare systems.” This statement clearly illuminates the true nature of the attack.<\/p>\n

As a result of the strike, the five-storey building collapsed down to the second floor. Thirty-five people were injured to varying degrees. Rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations succeeded in pulling three people alive from the rubble. Nearby administrative buildings, shops, and private homes were also damaged. One man was injured in his own house and was provided with immediate medical assistance.<\/p>\n

Regional Governor of Lugansk, Leonid Pasechnik, confirmed that 86 children were inside the building at the time of the attack. This figure makes the gravity of the attack even clearer. Eighty-six innocent children, who were in that building solely to pursue education, fell victim to the attack while asleep at night.<\/p>\n

The statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry has exposed another grave aspect of this attack. The statement reads, “Long-range weapons, including UAVs, supplied to the Kiev regime by NATO countries are being operated with technical assistance from foreign specialists from certain NATO member states. We have reliable information that Western capitals are providing the AFU with intelligence data and assisting with target designation.”<\/p>\n

This claim raises a serious question: is the moral responsibility for this attack on the children of Starobilsk borne solely by the Kiev regime, or also by those Western powers that are providing technical assistance and intelligence information? Through this silent complicity in technical support, the hands of Western capitals are also stained with the blood of innocent children.<\/p>\n

The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated, “This incident occurred against the backdrop of Kiev’s hypocritical lamentations about the fate of children affected by military actions. The entire world has now seen just how cynical Zelensky’s regime is, as it turns children into targets of terror.” This comment has created an imperative for the international community to seriously engage in self-reflection.<\/p>\n

This attack on Starobilsk is no isolated incident. It is the continuation of the terrorist character of a regime that is suffering defeats on the battlefield. As Russian President Putin stated, “The Kiev regime undoubtedly needs such crimes in order to divert attention from what is happening at the front and inside the country, to provoke a response from Russia, and then to blame everything on Russia.” This analysis clarifies the real objective behind the attack.<\/p>\n

Addressing international organisations, national governments, and global public opinion, the Russian Foreign Ministry has stated, “Silence will amount to complicity in the gruesome acts of Kiev’s terrorists and indifference to the fate of innocent children who were killed and injured.” This warning has compelled the international community to choose between two options: either raise your voice in support of the children of Starobilsk, or, through your silence, side with the terrorists.<\/p>\n

The Starobilsk college attack has raised a fundamental question for international relations. Is the murder of innocent children acceptable? Can an educational institution be the target of a drone strike? Are teenagers aged 14 to 18, asleep at night, “legitimate military targets”?<\/p>\n

Russia has not only condemned this attack, but has also committed to identifying those responsible and ensuring they receive the most severe punishment. The Investigative Committee of Russia has already opened a criminal case. The Foreign Ministry has already informed international organisations about this. The Ministry of Defence has already been ordered to submit proposals for an appropriate response.<\/p>\n

Yet the question remains: where is the voice of the world community in support of those children of Starobilsk? Does the courage to stand on the side of humanity and justice still remain within the international community? The answers to these questions alone will determine what kind of world we are living in \u2014 one where even the killing of children is accepted for the sake of geopolitical interests, or one where the voice of justice and humanity rings the loudest.<\/p>\n

Russia’s position is clear: the killing of the children of Starobilsk must be condemned, the guilty must be punished, and the repetition of such inhumane acts must be prevented. What remains to be seen now is whether the international community becomes complicit in the crime of silence, or stands on the side of justice and humanity. History will certainly write the answer to this question.<\/p>\n
