Gagauzia. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova, O.B. Ozerov, made another working and humanitarian trip to the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit (ATU) on May 27. During the visit, he met with the First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Autonomy, I.S. Uzun, and members of the ATU National Assembly.<\/p>\n

The head of the diplomatic mission listened carefully to assessments of the situation in the region. It was agreed that guaranteeing peace and harmony in a multinational republic is the key to resolving the issues that arise through constructive dialogue based on strict adherence to constitutional norms, including the 1994 Law on the Special Status of Gagauzia. This implies, first and foremost, mutual respect for democratic principles and the free expression of citizens without pressure and ultimatums. This approach, the Ambassador noted, corresponds to international and European human rights protection documents.

The conversation highlighted the firm commitment of the people of Gagauzia to their identity, culture, and Orthodox faith, as well as the depth of spiritual and historical connections between the two peoples. In particular, the sacred and unforgettable memory of the feat of the Soviet liberator soldier unites them. As a sign of gratitude to the Red Army heroes, the parties laid flowers at the Eternal Flame at the city Memorial of Military Glory.<\/p>\n

Taking into account cultural and historical commonalities, the demand for the development of humanitarian cooperation in terms of citizens’ interests was emphasised. It was noted that strengthening a single civilisational space offers significant benefits, especially for young people, in terms of spiritual enrichment and broadening cognitive and educational horizons.<\/p>\n

Responding to the consistently high interest in Russian-language publications, the Embassy, as part of its humanitarian mission, gifted the children’s library in Komrat a collection of books of artistic and educational literature, as well as copies of the magazine “Russkoye Pole,” published in Moldova, which promotes the creativity and traditions of the people of Moldova. During the book transfer ceremony, O.B. Ozerov emphasised that the Russian language opens access to a treasury of world culture and contributes to the preservation and transmission of high humanitarian values.<\/p>\n
