Astana. Russia and Kazakhstan have agreed to further expand cooperation in politics, economy, energy, education, healthcare, technology, and culture. Speaking to the media after bilateral talks held in Astana on May 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the talks were productive, constructive, and result-oriented.<\/p>\n

According to President Putin, the talks reflected the friendly and good-neighborly nature of relations between Russia and Kazakhstan. He said the meeting included detailed discussions on key areas of bilateral cooperation, political relations, economic partnership, cultural and humanitarian ties, and current issues on the international agenda.<\/p>\n

Following the talks, a joint statement was signed outlining priority tasks for strengthening Russia-Kazakhstan cooperation. Several important intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents were also concluded, covering areas such as energy, finance, healthcare, and education.<\/p>\n

Economic cooperation received special attention during the talks. According to President Putin, trade between the two countries reached nearly 29 billion US dollars in 2025. He said both countries are steadily moving toward the 30-billion-dollar mark and expressed confidence that this threshold will be crossed in the near future.<\/p>\n

The structure of trade between Russia and Kazakhstan has been expanding and diversifying. Noting that trade in high value-added goods is increasing, Putin said almost all settlements between the two countries are now carried out in national currencies. He said this has helped protect mutual export-import operations from external influence and negative trends in global markets.<\/p>\n

During the visit, agreements were also approved on the parameters for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan and on financing the project through a Russian state export credit. Once commissioned, the plant is expected to make a significant contribution to ensuring energy supply for Kazakhstan\u2019s economy and providing affordable and clean energy to enterprises and households.<\/p>\n

Russia and Kazakhstan are also continuing cooperation in the space sector. The two countries jointly operate the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Through joint efforts, a new launch pad named Baiterek has been created there. According to President Putin, the new and promising Soyuz-5 launch vehicle was recently sent into space from the site.<\/p>\n

Cooperation in digitalization and innovative technologies is also advancing at a strong pace. Russia and Kazakhstan are working together to introduce artificial intelligence and other modern technologies across various sectors of the economy and social life. The issue of high technologies is also expected to be discussed at the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum.<\/p>\n

President Putin praised the widespread use of the Russian language in Kazakhstan and the support provided by the Kazakh leadership in this regard. According to him, the new Constitution adopted through a referendum on March 15 confirms the official status of the Russian language. He also noted that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had put forward the initiative to establish the International Organization for the Russian Language.<\/p>\n

Reviewing international issues, Putin said the positions of Russia and Kazakhstan on most major matters are very close or almost identical. He said the two countries coordinate their approaches at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, including the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.<\/p>\n

President Putin also noted Kazakhstan\u2019s successful chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union this year. He said the upcoming summit of the Union would adopt important decisions aimed at deepening integration cooperation.<\/p>\n

The Russia-Kazakhstan talks in Astana have indicated a renewed momentum in the traditional friendship, strategic partnership, and regional cooperation between the two countries. The understandings reached in energy, trade, technology, education, healthcare, language, and international coordination are expected to make bilateral relations more institutionalized and multidimensional.<\/p>\n
